  • Top 9 New Parent Mistakes - And How To Avoid Them

Some people when they once stop living their childhood, they start to behave like they have never been there. But, that can be easily changed if they are willing to learn how to raise their children right. When many speak about what parents should do with their children, we will speak about the other side. It is better if you know what to avoid in certain situations and minimize the impact of the possible mistake. Children deserve to have the chance in this world to prove themselves.

1. Giving Them Too Much Screen Time

Yes, modern times, right? We are completely aware that every kid around yours has a smartphone, so you will be facing a risk of social bullying if you don’t buy one for your kid. And, if you decide to buy one for your child, you will be depriving it from the normal childish games in nature maybe. Why occupy the time of a child for something that will not bring memories or fresh breeze?

2. Get Angry When They Fall

Actually, family walks are always the best. The weather is fine, and every member of the family is smiling. Suddenly, the child falls with its arms pointed to the neighbor’s dog. This was only a wish for a hug. And, a scared parent sometimes can react in the wrong way, and give the child a lesson to watch where it goes, and they cannot think of the child’s fear at the moment from the fall. Think about it, people embrace advice better when they are calm.

3. Too Many Options

It is good if you are only thinking about your child’s health. But, giving your child too many options for every issue in their life they will get used to someone solving their problems. Give them the minimum outcome of the situation so they can learn how to cope with real life. They say that people learn faster when they are experiencing the consequences of a mistake. Let them explore and help them to navigate a bit, but don’t let them think that they are different from their peers because you care too much.

4. Going To The Toy Store

The old toys aren’t interesting enough, so you are taking your child to a toy store. The first thing child needs to know is that it cannot have all of the toys in the store. The second thing is to behave politely in order to receive the desired toy. You will not help your child if you buy everything in the store. You will only raise a person difficult to function with because once they meet an obstacle they don’t know how to handle it, and wait for someone to finish the task for them.

5. Repeating The Word "NO"

Besides, the piece of advice that you don’t need to meet every child’s requests, is tightly connected to the negation NO. It is good to set the limits in the relationship parent-child, but it is also bad if you are constantly forbidding something. Be careful, and choose the right situation for a negation, or even you can find a better and subtle way to say no, without bringing out the negativity that comes with the word itself.

6. Too Protective

Life is not Beauty and the Beast, so there is no need to keep your child under a glass cover. It is only a matter of time when your child will face the real world and has to handle it on its own. So, it needs to be prepared to fly out of the nest knowing that your little one has learned how to avoid unpleasant situations in life, or at least how to overcome them.

7. Shouting

Shouting is probably the worst thing you can use to make your children listen to you. Usually it’s contra-productive. Instead of shouting for every little thing they need to learn in life, try to explain their mistake through a story with a calm voice that will make them listen, and then just agree with no doubts that they shouldn’t do that.

8. Stay True To Your Words

If you are only telling the rules and you don’t obey them, especially when in front of your children, you are not true to your words and your children will notice your ‘lie’, and they will think that they can get away with everything. Do as you say so they can follow the example.

9. Push To What Parents Once Wanted

If you ever wanted to act in Broadway, and your child has a talent for Math, don’t push it to your unfulfilled life projection. Let your children be where they can be the best version of themselves. They will be thankful, for sure.
